Set up a charge-out rate target

⏱ 5 minutes Administrator Manage Targets Manage Users Targets Setup

Steps to confirm charge-out rate data is in place and configure a target calculated from daily target hours and hourly charge-out rate.

What you'll have at the end A fees-based target for one or more staff members, calculated from their charge-out rate and expected daily hours.
  1. 1
Confirm a charge-out rate is saved for each staff member
Charge-out rates are set manually through Manage Users. Confirm the rate is current before proceeding.
  2. 2
Navigate to Administration > Manage Targets
  3. 3
Select the Individual Targets tab and click Add target
  4. 4
    Name the target
Target name is the first field on the form and is optional. Leave it blank and the target is named automatically from its rule. Enter a name to show something plainer to the people reading it, or to mark a target as reporting-only.
  5. 5
Select the staff member(s) the target applies to
  6. 6
    Choose the performance basis
Select either personal timesheet performance or matter performance, based on the staff member's role and how their work is tracked.
  7. 7
    Select the target metric
Choose from billable fees, invoiced fees, collected fees, or collected fees excluding credits.
  8. 8
Set "Calculated as" to Target hours x Hourly charge out rate
  9. 9
    Enter the daily target hours
Workzilla calculates the dollar target automatically — daily hours × charge-out rate × working days in the period.
  10. 10
Set the frequency and start month
    Choose monthly, quarterly, or annually.
  11. 11
Open Advanced to scope and adjust the target
Specialisations — leave empty to include every matter type, or select one or more so that only figures from matters under those specialisations count toward the target. Target daily hours (stretch target) — an optional higher daily figure to aim at. Public Holidays and Leave — choose Reduce to lower the target value in the periods affected, or Spread to distribute the value across the remaining workdays.
  12. 12
    Save
  13. 13
    Confirm the target was created
Navigate to Management > Targets to verify the target appears correctly.
The target is saved and will begin tracking from the selected start month. For more on creating and managing targets or updating charge-out rate data, see the related articles below.
